Experience expression through creative mindfulness and movement. Our small-group workshop combines the reverent mind-soul-body connection of yoga with the freedom and power of literary expression. Clients should bring a notebook or several sheets of paper and a writing (or drawing) utensil. Class starts with introducing the chosen theme followed by approximately ten minutes of grounding meditation where clients are encouraged to set an intention for their practice or simply spend time in stillness to release external distractions and stress of the day.
The next portion of our workshop is a “stream of consciousness” exercise, where clients and the instructor intuitively write, draw, doodle or utilize any other way to effectively “brain dump” thoughts, feelings, emotions, ideas onto the page. Workshop attendees are reminded to release perfection and unrealistic expectations, especially during this part of class. This exercise doesn’t take more than 15 minutes .
Our third section features yoga and movement. The instructor will host a class of approximately 30-35 minutes. Instead of Shavasana, we will return to our notebooks.
During the last 30 minutes of our poetic workshop the writing exercise is conducted in a manner that applies to all skill levels and interest. We will define clear goals on how to organize thoughts and ideas from earlier, and how to use the chosen theme to compose work of value (to YOU): Poetry doesn’t have to make sense to anyone but the author. What you create is for YOU – unless you want to share.
